About the Art

ImageAs a long time artist, I've had the joy of working in many medias. I've done oils and watercolors on the traditional canvas and paper. I still do when time permits. I've also dabbled in the three dimensional work of sculpture. Then I discovered fabric painting and applied my style of painting to that media. I started with the usual t-shirts and sweats. And I still do those to some degree. Then came the fun of silk, and I began to apply that to clothing. From that came the other items like pillows, scarves, quilts, and wall hangings. I've since branched out to leather. Oh what a pleasure it is to work with this product.

I like to use acrylic paint with the watercolor effect. The acrylic is very durable and pliable, so that the wearer can treat it just like the leather itself.

For the clothing such as the JANUS Capes, Shawls, Swag tops, and Scarves I like to use the ever so soft and pliable lamb skins and suedes. There is an array of colors available, but I usually use the naturals such as black, browns, French vanilla, taupe, and grays. For the Vests that are more structured, I can use deer skin as well. The Vests can be done with a combination of heavy fabric with painted deer or lamb skin as accent, or can be constructed entirely in lamb or deer.

Each piece is an individual and unique creation. I allow the natural edges and shapes of the skins tell me how it wants to flow over the body, or accent the piece.

The Wall Hangings are done with either the combination of heavy fabric and deer skins or all leather, layered and painted. These can be constructed in nearly any size you desire for the space you would like to hang it. I use black, rust, gold, and smoke color deer skin in layers, and to accent the piece I add unique buttons, and or conchos with strands of leather tassels and sometimes beads, feathers, and horse hair.

ImagePillows are done in all leather (deer, bull and lamb) or the combination of leather and fabric with various interesting trims to set them off. These can be done in any size that makes you happy!

The Throws are done usually in one deer hide, but can be done with a combination of several to make a king size bed cover ~ again, your choice.

All my pieces can range in theme from Wildlife, Native American, Cave Art, to any breed of Horse you are in love with. I happen to love them all!

The Paintings: Shown is a three piece screen, done on hollow doors. The theme is of Arabian horses. The media is mixed using different textures of paint and paper. I also do paintings on a wood base to hang on the wall as well... Using the collage effect gives them a wonderful textural look and feel.

The Art Figure: As you have already noticed, I love to combine different media and textures on a piece. "Spirit of the Horse" is done with clay, fabric, paper (with prose) and paint with a bit of horse hair to top it off!

ImageTo have a JANUS piece of wearable or visual or useable ART made for you, just let me know what you have in mind and I'll be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.

And of course, you are most welcome to stop by my booth at either the US Arabian Nationals in Louisville, KY in 2006 or the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show in Scottsdale, AZ in Feb. 2007.

I am always doing new pieces and adding to the site, so check back often. If you have something special in mind, we can work together to come up with a unique piece just for you or your home.
